Hidden between several buildings sits the entrance to Macon’s upscale steak restaurant; Macon Downtown Grill. Valet parking was provided but we decided to walk to the entrance because a parking spot became available.
As we entered, the hostess made us feel like old friends as she guided us to our table. We passed an elegant bar and entered a cozy dinning room that was dark and mysterious. It really felt like a old time romantic restaurant from times past.
The clientele was well dressed and seemed to enjoy the quiet atmosphere. From what I could see, I didn’t notice any hats or shorts. Candles flickered as guest sat in leather wrap-around booths.
We had the onion soup which was prepared just as you expect. Covered with cheese and croutons. They brought out a loaf of fresh bread which was flakey and warm. I ordered the steak and my wife ordered the duck. My steak was prepared medium rare. I didn’t upgrade to the better cut, so what I had for the price was excellent.
Overall, everything we ordered was nicely prepared. They really take pride in what they serve. The waitress was very knowledgeable and provided excellent service.
If there are any negatives, and they are very insignificant. I would say that I noticed internet wires stretched across the room over the tables. It seems they could have hidden them away in some fashion. Also, the map on my phone didn’t take us to the right location, likely because the entrance was between several buildings.
Old Macon recommends Macon Downtown Grill based on the personal service, old time atmosphere, and food quality. For this type of evening, the meal was very affordable.
